Zoovu: The Ultimate Guide to Product Detail Pages

According to Zoovu’s analysis of product detail pages on 125 brand B2C e-commerce websites across five major industries, these pages get the experience right in some areas, but may have room for improvement in others.

When examining the most common elements on product detail pages, at least 90% have a product image (100%), price (96%), customer reviews (90%), and related product suggestions (90%).

The focus on customer reviews is consistent with what consumers want from product detail pages, but the report suggests there may be some overload in terms of information elements. This is because among the information elements analyzed, there were an average of 24 specifications, nearly 13 product images, and 11 related product suggestions. Brands would do well to make these product suggestions more relevant and personalized, as these are attractive to consumers.

Personalization appears to be an area for improvement for the B2C brands analyzed: nearly three-quarters of pages have either only one personalized element (49%) or no personalization at all (25%).

Meanwhile, the majority of product detail pages surveyed in the report had interactive elements (69%), shipping information (59%), page promotion (57%), other social proof (57%), and an “add to wishlist” feature (56%). Close behind were videos on about half of the pages and product bundles on nearly half (47%).

95% of pages have at least one upsell or cross-sell element, and more than a fifth (22%) have three or more. The report warns that some recommendations are irrelevant, and with an average of 11 product recommendations per page, brands may be inducing decision paralysis and/or abandonment.
