[Source] Medicinal material source: the tender stems, leaves or whole herb of dill, a plant of the Umbelliferae family.

[Original form] Annual herb, rarely biennial, 60-120cm tall. The whole plant is hairless and has a strong fiery aroma. The stem is single, erect, 0.5-1.5cm in diameter. The basal leaves are petiolate, 4-6cm long, with broad sheaths at the base; the leaf blade outline is broadly ovate, three to four times pinnate-lobed, the final segment is filiform, 4-20mm long, and less than 0.5mm wide; the leaves on the upper part of the stem are smaller, less divided, without petioles, only sheaths. The compound umbel is terminal, 5-15cm in diameter, with 10-25 rays and no bracts; the umbel has 15-25 flowers; no bracts; the petals are yellow, oblong, the ligules are nearly rectangular and incurved; the calyx teeth are not obvious; the styles are short, the stylopodium is conical to cushion-shaped, the bi-suspended fruits are flattened ovate, 3-5mm long, 2-3mm wide, and brown when mature; the dorsal ribs are thin and obviously protruding, the lateral ribs have narrow wings, each rib groove has 1 oil tube, and the commissure has 2 oil tubes. The flowering period is from May to August, and the fruiting period is from July to September.

[Pharmacological action] Intravenous injection of the whole herb extract can lower animal blood pressure, dilate blood vessels, stimulate breathing, slow heart rate, reduce small intestinal tension, reduce peristalsis, and promote diuresis; it can be used for early hypertension, especially when used in combination with bromine.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; warm

【Functions and indications】Promotes the flow of qi and relieves diaphragm; reduces adverse reactions and stops vomiting; resolves phlegm and relieves cough. It is used for chest and flank distension and pain; vomiting and hiccups; cough; and expectoration.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-9g.
