【Other Name】 Mangosteen bark

[Source] Medicinal material source: The bark of Garcinia multiflora Champ. and Garcinia oblongifolia Champ.ex Benth, both of the Garcinia family.

[Original form] 1. Bamboo evergreen tree, 5-17m high. Simple leaves are opposite; petiole is 1-2cm long; leaf blade is leathery, elliptic or narrowly elliptic, 7-15cm long, 2-5cm wide, apex is short acuminate or acute, base is cuneate, margin is entire, glabrous on both sides, midrib is slightly raised above, lateral veins are more than 8 on each side, reticulated near leaf margin, not reaching midmargin. Flowers are unisexual, rarely heterosexual, orange-yellow; several male flowers form a cyme, which is then arranged in a raceme or panicle; sepals and petals are both in number of 4; stamens are numerous, fused into 4 bundles, higher than the reduced pistil; the reduced pistil is columnar, with a distinct shield-shaped stigma, 4-lobed; the female inflorescence has 1-5 female flowers, with short bundles of reduced stamens, and a stalk about 1.5mm long, shorter than the pistil; the ovary is oblong, 2-chambered, without style, and the stigma is large and thick, shield-shaped. The berries are spherical, ovate to obovate, green-yellow when ripe, 2.5-3cm in diameter, with a persistent stigma at the tip, and yellow resin on the pericarp. The flowering period is May, and the fruiting period is July-August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: 1. Growing in evergreen broad-leaved forests in mountain valleys.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; sour; cool

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; astringes and promotes tissue regeneration. Mainly used for peptic ulcer, enteritis, stomatitis, periodontitis, lower limb ulcer, eczema, burns

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-10g. For external use: take appropriate amount, mash and apply or grind into powder and sprinkle on the affected area.
