Artemisia, also known as wormwood, is a perennial herb or slightly semi-shrubby plant with a strong aroma. All parts of Artemisia argyi are edible. Artemisia argyi has always been used as a medicinal material in traditional Chinese medicine. The whole plant has the effects of removing dampness and cold, stopping bleeding and reducing inflammation, and resisting allergies. The leaves of mugwort are dried and crushed into "moxa wool", which is made into moxa sticks for use in moxibustion, mainly in Asia. And distributed in Europe. What everyone is most familiar with about mugwort is mugwort essential oil, which is a volatile aromatic substance extracted from the leaves and stems of mugwort through extrusion and solvent extraction methods. The wormwood essential oil that people usually consume is generally diluted. Mugwort essential oil is highly volatile, so it must be stored in a sealed bottle. Mugwort essential oil is generally used for foot baths and moxibustion. It can treat dysmenorrhea and periarthritis of the shoulder, and can also relieve cough and phlegm, promote digestion, and enhance the body's immunity. In addition to being frequently used as a medicine, mugwort is also a very good food. Especially in southern my country, many traditional foods made with mugwort are very popular among people. One type of glutinous rice cake is made with mugwort as the main ingredient. It is made by mixing fresh mugwort and glutinous rice flour in a ratio of one to two around the Qingming Festival, wrapping it with fillings such as peanuts, sesame seeds and sugar (mung bean paste is added in some areas), and then steaming it. In the Dongjiang River Basin of Guangdong, locals pick fresh mugwort leaves and buds in winter and spring and eat them as vegetables. Every time the beginning of spring comes, the Hakka people in Ganzhou collect mugwort to make mugwort fruit, which has become a local custom. Because mugwort has certain dyeing properties, it is used to make dyes in some places. Mugwort is also one of the main materials for making ink. In our country, in some places, people always put mugwort in their homes to "ward off evil spirits" during the Dragon Boat Festival. |
