[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of Saussurea ursulica of the Asteraceae family.

[Original form] Ussuri Saussurea is a perennial herb, 30-100cm tall. Rhizome creeping. Stem erect, sparsely pubescent or almost glabrous. The basal leaves survive the flowering period and have long petioles like the lower leaves; the leaf blades are ovate or oblong-ovate, 7-15cm long, 5-7cm wide, with long or short acuminate apex, cordate or halberd-shaped base, often pinnately divided, with coarse serrations on the margins, with rough short hairs on the upper surface and margins, and glabrous on the lower surface; the upper leaves are sessile or almost sessile, lanceolate or ovate, acuminate at the apex, entire or with shallow teeth. There are many capitulum inflorescences, arranged in umbels at the top of stems and branches, with short stalks and linear bracts; the involucral bracts are tubular, about 1 cm long, with 5 layers, the tip and edges are often purple-red, covered with spider-like hairs, the outer layer is ovate, with a short tip, and the inner layer is linear; the flowers are purple-red, 10-12 mm long. Achenes, 4-5mm long; pappus white, outer layer rough hairy, inner layer feathery.
