Apples vs. pears, which one is easier to preserve? | There is great science in life

Today we are going to talk about two very common fruits in our daily life - apples and pears. Have you ever noticed that sometimes after leaving them at home for a while, one is still edible, but the other may have "sacrificed heroically"? There is actually a lot of knowledge behind this!

Let's talk about apples, which are loved by everyone. Did you know that at room temperature, hardcore apples like Fuji apples can stay stable for one to two weeks without spoiling! But it depends on the situation. If it is already ripe, it is another matter. So, if you want your apples to be stored for a few more days, remember to pick those that are not fully ripe, and find a cool and ventilated place to place them. Put a small net bag or a breathable paper bag on them, just like putting on a layer of protective clothing for the little apples to prevent moisture from sneaking away.

In contrast, pears are not so strong, and usually start to show signs of fatigue after 3 to 7 days. Why? Because pears have thin skin and tender flesh, just like a fragile little princess. If the environment changes slightly, such as being too hot or too dry, it will easily lose water and deteriorate. In addition, different types of pears have different storage capacity. For example, the shelf life of fragrant pears and bartlett pears may be different.

Why do apples last longer than pears? This is because the relatively thick skin of apples provides an extra layer of protection for the fruit, slowing down the evaporation of water and the invasion of microorganisms. In addition, apples have a weaker respiration, which means that they consume oxygen at a slower rate, thus slowing down the aging process. The natural antioxidants in apples, such as vitamin C and polyphenols, help resist oxidation and extend the shelf life.

But then again, whether it's apples or pears, the right storage method is the key to keeping them in the best condition. When choosing, look for those cute little ones with flawless appearance and uniform color; when storing, pay attention to keeping them away from light, ventilated, and avoid high and low temperatures. In addition, different fruits may affect each other if placed together, so it is best to store them separately.

In short, although apples have higher survival skill points than pears at room temperature, as long as we master the correct method, we can enjoy the deliciousness and health of both apples and pears.
