In the Xiaodongtian Scenic Area in Sanya, Hainan, there is a group of ancient dragon blood trees, with an average age of more than 200 years, which are the real "longevity stars" in the plant world. Their lush branches and leaves are like open "green umbrellas" and have ornamental value.

Hainan Dragon Blood Tree, also known as the Immortal Pine, is an evergreen shrub of the Agavaceae family, with a height of 3 to 4 meters. The trunk is short and thick, the bark is gray-brown, and cracked vertically, which makes it look old, but the branches and leaves are very lush. The dark green ribbon-shaped leaves grow together on the stems and branches, almost overlapping, hugging the stems, and sessile. The leaves are green and full of vitality, and the whole crown is very beautiful. The panicle inflorescence is about 30cm long, and the flowers grow in clusters of 3 to 7, which are green-white or light yellow, fragrant, and the small petals are crystal clear and very beautiful.

When the bark of Hainan Dragon Blood Tree is cut, dark red resin will flow out, just like blood, commonly known as "dragon blood", which can be used to extract a precious Chinese medicine "Xuejie" or "Qilinjie", which has good effects of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, reducing swelling and relieving pain, astringing and stopping bleeding. It can be taken orally or applied externally. It is a special medicine for treating traumatic injuries, promoting blood circulation and stopping bleeding. It is also a raw material for making paint.

Bonsai made with Dracaena has a unique Hainan tropical style. The tree is vigorous and simple, the style is elegant and fresh, the branches and leaves are luxuriant, the shadows are swaying, beautiful and generous, the thick roots are exposed, full of interest, the bark is rugged, the leaves are lush, and the posture is graceful, giving people a feeling of "old but not frail".

The Dracaena has a beautiful and regular shape, colorful leaf shapes and colors. The survival rate of potted Dracaena is high, and it is easy to reproduce and manage. It is light-loving, drought-resistant and shade-tolerant. It is an excellent foliage plant for modern interior decoration. Medium and small potted flowers can embellish the study, living room and bedroom, and large and medium-sized plants can beautify and arrange the hall.

According to statistics, wild dragon blood trees are mainly distributed in Exianling in Dongfang, Hainan, Bawangling in Changjiang and Daling in Changhua, Chahekou in Ledong Jianfengling, Heiling in Dongfang Banqiao Town and Tuoyaling in Tian'an Township, Nanshan and Yalong Bay in Sanya, Niuling at the boundary between Wanning and Lingshui, and Le Nanshan in Wanning.
