Are you always getting electrocuted in winter? Here are some easy tips to help you avoid static electricity!

Winter is coming

Do you often experience sudden "electric shocks"?

This is actually static electricity causing trouble!

In this issue

Dr. Ke will reveal the cause of static electricity to you

Let you learn how to stay away from the trouble of static electricity

Matter is made up of atoms, which contain a large number of positive and negative charges . Normally, these positive and negative charges are in a state of balance, making the object as a whole uncharged. However, due to the differences in the activity of electrons in different objects, an imbalance in charge may occur.

Take the example of putting on and taking off clothes in our daily life. The body is originally in a state of positive and negative charge balance. However, in the process of putting on and taking off clothes, due to friction , part of the charge will be transferred from the body to the clothes. Since clothes are usually insulating, these transferred charges are firmly adsorbed on the clothes, resulting in excess positive or negative charges between the body and the clothes, thus generating static electricity.

Once static electricity is generated, it may be accompanied by static discharge , which is what we often call "being electrocuted". The spark we see when we are "electrocuted" is actually the path of instantaneous current.

So why is static electricity particularly prone to occur in winter? The reason is that the generation of static electricity requires dry air as a condition. In most cities in China, the air is relatively dry in winter. Especially in indoor areas with heating, the air humidity is often less than 30%, which results in very few droplets in the air that can transfer charge, which is not conducive to the dissipation of charge, so static electricity is more likely to accumulate. In short, the drier the environment, the more frequent the generation of static electricity. Therefore, the frequency of static electricity in winter is higher than in other seasons.

Static electricity in life will have some effects on our bodies.

(1)

For people with weak heart function

The magnetic field generated by static electricity can cause chest tightness, dizziness, shortness of breath, and irritability in mild cases, and arrhythmia and premature beats in severe cases, aggravating the condition.

(2)

Static electricity can change brain potential

Static electricity changes brain potential and causes abnormal current conduction in the brain nerve cell membranes, making people feel tired, irritable, insomnia and headaches.

(3)

The harm of static electricity to pregnant women

If pregnant women are exposed to too much static electricity, it will affect the level of progesterone in the body, causing fatigue or irritability, and in severe cases may cause miscarriage.

(4)

Effects of static electricity on the skin

Static electricity can generate a large amount of cations around the human body, which reduces moisture in the skin, increases dandruff, and is more likely to induce skin itching.

(5)

Static electricity may attract harmful substances

A large amount of dust adsorbed by static electricity contains a variety of viruses, bacteria and other harmful substances, which can affect human health if inhaled.

Although static electricity has a certain impact on the body, there is no need to panic. In life, we can effectively reduce the trouble caused by static electricity by doing the following:

(1)

How to Reduce Static Electricity in Hair

①Keep your hair clean

The dry climate in winter is particularly prone to dandruff. You must keep your hair clean and comfortable. Hair with dandruff and dirt is a hotbed for static electricity. Therefore, you must wash your hair and take a bath frequently, and change clothes frequently in winter, which can effectively remove the static electricity accumulated on the human body surface.

② Do not use products containing alcohol

When styling your hair, do not use products containing alcohol, as the evaporation of alcohol will make your hair drier and more astringent. It is best to use a leave-in conditioner, which will not only form a protective film on the surface of the hair, but also help to style the hair.

③Choose a wooden comb or a horn comb

The choice of comb is also very important. It is best to use a wooden or keratin comb to comb your hair. If you use a plastic comb, you can soak the comb in water for a while before use, and then comb your hair after the static electricity is eliminated.

④Wet your hair before styling

Dry, fluffy hair is difficult to manage. After getting up in the morning, it is best to spray some moisturizing spray, wet your hair, and then comb it smooth, which will help prevent the generation of static electricity.

⑤ Wear cotton or silk clothes

In winter, it is best to choose soft and smooth cotton or silk tops, and it is best not to choose chemical fiber clothing. This can also reduce the friction between hair and clothes and reduce static electricity.

(2)

How to reduce static electricity on clothes?

① Wear less synthetic clothing

When choosing clothes, try to wear cotton and linen fabrics, and avoid wearing chemical fiber clothes.

②Use fabric softener

Sweaters and coats worn in winter are very prone to static electricity generated by friction. Soaking clothes in fabric softener when washing and then drying them can greatly prevent static electricity. Diluting fabric softener in water and spraying it on clothes will also be effective. It softens the fibers and reduces static electricity generated by friction.

③Put your clothes in the bathroom

Another solution is to hang the sweater with static electricity in a steamy bathroom after taking a shower. This allows the moisture to penetrate the clothes and prevent static electricity from drying out.

④ Place a newspaper between the bags when storing them

When storing clothes, put newspapers between them. Newspapers can not only prevent static electricity from rubbing against clothes, but also have an insect repellent effect. However, if you think it looks untidy and are worried that ink will be printed on the clothes, it is also a good idea to put pure cotton clothes between woven clothes.

(3)

What should we do about static electricity in other aspects of life?

①Use a humidifier

Dry and cold air is also one of the main reasons for static electricity. You can place a humidifier at home, or simply put a basin of water in the room. As long as the air problem is handled well, you will basically not be bothered by static electricity at home.

② Touch the key first and then open the door

When touching an iron door, do not touch it directly with your hands. Instead, first grab a bunch of keys in your pocket over a large area with your hands (this usually does not cause electric shock), and then touch the iron door with the tip of a key. In this way, the electricity in your body will be "discharged" and you will not be "electrocuted".

③Touch the door before getting out

Electric shocks often occur when getting off a taxi. This is mainly because static electricity accumulates when the body rubs against the seat when getting off the taxi, and when closing the door after getting off the taxi, the hand suddenly touches the door and gets an electric shock.

When this situation often happens, it is best to pay attention: when getting off the car, that is, when your body is rubbing against the seat, hold the metal door frame in advance. This can discharge the static electricity on your body at any time when static electricity is generated by friction, so that you don't suddenly touch the door after getting off the car and cause discharge.
