When I was little, my mother liked to buy me this kind of autumn clothes: But what if I say that this kind of 100% cotton autumn clothing should not be worn as a base layer in colder places? When it comes to keeping warm, we can discuss it from three aspects: temperature, human body, and clothes. The temperature here refers to the degree of coldness or warmth felt by the human body, that is, the "perceived temperature". There are four influencing factors: weather temperature, humidity, wind speed, and solar radiation. The most important of these is humidity: when it is hot, the higher the humidity, the hotter it feels; When it’s cold, the higher the humidity, the colder it feels. The humidity in the north is very low in winter, but it is really miserable in the south. Clothes won’t be dry even after a week of washing. And people still have to sweat. Don’t think that people don’t sweat in the cold winter. Our bodies have water evaporating from the surface of the skin and mucous membranes all the time. Because it does not form droplets, it is also called "insensible perspiration". This amount is about one pound per adult per day. The next pressure comes to the underwear. Pure cotton fabric has a characteristic: it has good water absorption ability, but poor moisture discharge ability. The water absorption capacity can be referred to this indicator: the public moisture regain, the higher the moisture regain, the more absorbent it is. Cotton is 8.5%, which is not as good as wool, silk and linen, but much better than acrylic and other artificial fibers. So what about the poor moisture removal ability? Let's switch perspective a little. You are a water molecule that has just emerged from the pores of a big man. Now you have two paths in front of you. First, you are absorbed by the fibers and then evaporate through the fiber surface. Second, you pass directly out from the gaps between the fibers of the fabric. The electron microscope photo of cotton fiber looks like this: Slender, hollow structure, cross section like a kidney. As mentioned earlier, the absorption route is easy to follow; but it is precisely because of its good water absorption that cotton fibers swell after absorbing water, and its irregular shape, once expanded, the gap between the tubes is drastically reduced, and the second route immediately becomes difficult to follow. One, two, two steps happened in succession, no matter it was water vapor or sweat drops, they would be immediately sucked into the body by the pure cotton autumn clothes storm but could not be discharged. I asked my sweaty leader to help me. On two days when the weather did not change much, I asked him to ride to the company wearing pure cotton and blended autumn clothes. It took about 30 minutes to ride. The results are as follows: After the experiment, we summarize: the perceived temperature is affected by four factors: temperature, humidity, wind speed, and solar radiation; the higher the humidity in winter, the colder people feel; and pure cotton materials have strong moisture absorption capacity and poor moisture dissipation ability; so in particularly cold places, it is not recommended to wear pure cotton autumn clothes as a base layer, especially for those who sweat a lot. So how do you dress to keep warm? Here is a three-layer dressing principle: Three-layer dressing principle 1. For the sweat-wicking layer next to the skin, choose a breathable, moisture-permeable and light material, such as a blend of polyester, acrylic and spandex. Artificial fabrics are not that uncomfortable. If you are not sure, you can touch it in a physical store before buying it. 2. The middle warm layer is responsible for locking in air. Cashmere, sweaters, and down vests are all acceptable. 3. The outer windproof layer is the jacket that everyone hates the most. It is waterproof, windproof, wear-resistant and breathable. It can save lives in extreme outdoor environments. But my friend said: I just like pure cotton! No one can take my floral long johns away from me! ——Of course! Pure cotton is indeed skin-friendly and comfortable without static electricity. Wear it as home clothes in places with sufficient heating in winter, and you will be the most beautiful person in the whole community.
