Cucumbers are obviously green

But why is it called “cucumber”?

Next, let us

Let’s solve the questions that have been asking us for years!

It turns out that cucumbers were indeed yellow when they were first discovered, and they are also yellow when they mature.

In fact, the original name of cucumber was Hugua, which was brought back to China by Zhang Qian during the Han Dynasty when he was on a diplomatic mission to the Western Regions. At first, it was just a wild melon. People at that time were called Hu people, so the melon was given the name Hugua.

During the Later Zhao Dynasty, a new ruler was created, and a law was enacted that the word "Hu" was not allowed to appear anywhere. Hugua was also implicated and was renamed as cucumber.

In addition, the green cucumbers we usually eat are not yet ripe. Fully ripe cucumbers will still turn yellow, but the taste after ripening is not as good as when they are green, and they do not have as much moisture, so everyone will choose green cucumbers to eat.

Do you understand now? How about a cucumber for dinner?
