FedEx: Entering the Indian cross-border e-commerce market

FedEx released its "Entering India's Cross-Border E-Commerce Market". India's cross-border e-commerce categories mainly include clothing, electronics and beauty products shipped from overseas.

The countries from which Indians make the most purchases are the United States, China and Australia. This suggests that businesses in these countries have earned the trust of Indian consumers, a foundation on which new businesses can build.

The Indian e-commerce market is expected to reach $350 billion by 2030.

Sales channels and platforms in India

Amazon, Flipkart, Nykaa, Paytm Mall, Snapdeal, Myntra and ajio are leading the race to capture the Indian market. Amazon is far ahead with around 944.43 million monthly visits.

As an international brand, you can sell directly on Amazon without registering your company in India.

As an international brand, if you want to sell across markets and have a website, it is recommended that you first register a company in India and apply for a GSTIN and a local bank account.

Build demand and convert sales

Language targeting allows ads to be directed to potential customers in tier 2-3 cities who use Google products and third-party websites, based on the language these customers understand.

Facebook is the leading social media network in India. Disney+ Hotstar, with 40.4 million users, is the most comprehensive OTT platform in India, followed by Amazon Prime Video with 22 million users.

Seamless cross-border payments

India’s digital payments market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 15.56% from 2023 to 2027 and the total transaction value is likely to reach $321.7 billion in 2027.

Payment methods such as UPI and digital wallets are increasingly becoming the preferred method for online shopping in India.

The major taxes in India to ensure compliance include Digital Services Tax, Goods and Services Tax, and Corporate Tax.

Delightful e-commerce logistics

Major shipping channels and integrations in India that brands can tap include local postal services and courier services. Shipping companies also partner with international shipping and logistics services like FedEx to cater to cross-border needs.
