Let’s take a look at the fancy ways of playing at the Latin American e-commerce festival

Every year, shoppers around the globe take advantage of discount days to score the best deals. These events have long been key to driving in-store sales for retailers big and small, but with the growing popularity of e-commerce, promotions and specials are quickly moving to the digital realm. Whether it’s the Hot Sale, El Buen Fin, CyberDays, Cyber Monday or Black Friday, there’s no shortage of online sales events in Latin America. Even if not all of them are celebrated simultaneously across the region, a few have become household names for online shopping in most Latin American countries.

A tough shopping season

Black Friday and Cyber Monday typically mark the start of a global holiday shopping frenzy. Despite their popularity in Latin America, online sales fell during the 2022 holiday season due to the reopening of brick-and-mortar stores and rising inflation. Brazil saw its online sales fall during Black Friday and Cyber Monday for the first time since reporting the data. Similarly, during Cyber Mondays, which some countries call "Cyberlunes," Chile saw sales revenue and transaction volume fall by about 24%, respectively. While Argentina's revenue continued to grow during the period, interest in the event appears to have stagnated.

Hot Sale Festival – Mid-year Shopping Spree

In addition to holiday sales, several Latin American markets have incorporated mid-year promotional days into the e-commerce calendar. In 2014, the Mexican Association of Online Sales and the Argentine Chamber of E-Commerce launched Hot Sale, a discount event designed to boost e-commerce, which has paid off. In 2022, Mexico's Hot Sale generated approximately MXN 23.2 billion in online sales and attracted approximately 12 million new buyers. Similarly, Argentina's event proved to be a success, with revenue of 42 billion ARS that year, a 68% increase over the 2021 event. In recent years, the digital event has expanded to new territories throughout the region, with multiple events in Colombia, Brazil, Chile, and Peru.
