Airlines for America: U.S. summer air passenger traffic is expected to reach 257 million in 2019

Airlines for America said on Tuesday it expects U.S. air passenger traffic to hit a record high this summer despite the impact of the grounding of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The association said it expects U.S. airlines to carry 257.4 million passengers between June 1 and August 31, breaking last summer's record of 248.8 million.

The association said airlines will add 111,000 seats per day to accommodate an expected 93,000 additional daily passengers, which would mark the 10th consecutive summer of traffic gains for U.S. airlines, reflecting the health of the U.S. economy and a strong job market.
