Recently, the customized travel platform Ctrip Customized Travel released its first annual "my country's Corporate Team Building Customized Travel Index Report", revealing the answer.

The report analyzes and studies the massive team-building order data completed this year by more than 34,000 corporate customers and more than 1,200 customized suppliers on Ctrip’s customized platform.

The report shows that in the first half of 2018, the number of customized orders for enterprises increased by 200% year-on-year, team building customization accounted for 15% of the total enterprise customization, and the per capita consumption of team building increased by 15% compared with last year. Internet companies have the highest proportion of team building, and Shanghai companies rank first in the country.

The report shows that team building in Chinese companies is characterized by professionalism and personalization. "Selecting people, improving cohesion, strengthening communication, resolving conflicts, and unifying values ​​through team building" are important demands of many companies' team building, so companies have higher and higher requirements for the "professionalism" of team building activities. At the same time, the demand for personalized products and services has become a trend.

"The traditional tourism industry has difficulty meeting corporate requirements in terms of product categories, prices, and services. Solving team building problems through customized online platforms with massive global resources has become a trend." Xu Zhiyun, CEO of Ctrip's customized travel platform, said that Ctrip has formed long-term cooperative relationships with tens of thousands of well-known domestic and foreign corporate customers such as Baidu, Tencent, and Sony.

Internet companies love team building

According to Ctrip's customized travel data, in terms of company industry, the computer/internet/communication/electronics industry has the highest proportion of team building, accounting for 22%; the trade/consumption/manufacturing/operation industry accounts for 16%; the accounting/finance/banking/insurance industry accounts for 9%. In terms of company nature, the largest proportion is private enterprises, accounting for 47%, and foreign-funded enterprises account for 16%. The company size is mainly concentrated in companies with less than 500 people, accounting for 80%.

Moving online games to real scenes and playing the same tasks as reality shows are the mainstream demands of corporate team building nowadays, such as the popular "Chicken Eating" game, Go Fighting or reality shows such as Running Man.

A leading Internet company customized a three-day and two-night "real-life chicken-eating" expansion activity in the Qiandao Lake forest area, conducting combat operations drills and treasure hunts in a real field environment, including pre-war training, terrain reconnaissance, construction of fortifications, sabotage operations, ambushes, occupation of key locations, and underground cave exploration.

The education industry also customized a two-day and one-night "desert island survival" team-building program on an uninhabited island in Zhejiang. The team learned basic survival skills, used a sand table to simulate the entire survival drill and treasure hunting process, and worked in groups to formulate action plans for strategic planning; they also judged the terrain, collaborated to build shelters, conducted hunger resistance training, and spent a night without food or a campfire.

Corporate customers also put forward special requirements such as "need to arrange professional coaches", "photographic equipment", "provide a full set of equipment", etc. Data shows that corporate customers usually consult 2-3 tailors, and tailors with professional outdoor backgrounds are more popular with corporate customers.

32% of team building costs per person are less than 1,000 yuan

The financial industry is most willing to spend money

According to data analysis from Ctrip's customized travel platform, among the top ten domestic destinations, Yunnan has the highest price at 732.4 yuan per person per day, while Hebei has the lowest price at 441.4 yuan per person per day.

Among the top ten overseas destinations, Saipan has the highest price at 1,205 yuan per person per day, while the Philippines has the lowest price at 657 yuan per person per day.

In general, the proportion of corporate team-building activities with per capita expenditure below 1,000 yuan is the largest, accounting for 32%, while the proportion of per capita expenditure above 10,000 yuan is 6%. Among them, the financial insurance industry, real estate industry, and computer and Internet industry are the most willing to spend money.

New ways to build corporate team

Judging from the new ways of team building in the first half of 2018, they can be divided into three main categories. One is relaxation and leisure, such as meditation and food tours; one is expansion activities, such as survival on a desert island, grassland hiking, and desert crossing; and the other is team building themes related to overseas study and inspection, such as corporate inspections and training at prestigious schools.

June to August is the peak season for corporate team building

According to data from Ctrip's customized travel platform, corporate team building has shown a clear growth trend since March, and the peak of corporate team building travel appeared from June to August. The demand for destinations such as Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Japan, and Thailand has increased significantly. The theme of customized demand in summer is prominent, and the number of team building orders such as "visiting hidden wetlands", "yacht vacation", and "beach barbecue" has increased.

Zhejiang is the preferred destination for corporate team building

The top ten domestic destinations customized by enterprises are Zhejiang, Guangdong, Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Fujian, Hebei, Yunnan, Anhui, and Sichuan. The top ten overseas destinations are Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Saipan. The ratio of domestic and overseas destinations for customized corporate group travel is 8:2.

Zhejiang is rich in cultural and natural landscapes and has convenient transportation, making it the preferred team-building destination for many companies, such as Anji Bamboo Sea, Moganshan B&B, and Lingnan Ancient Trail Hiking.

According to data from Ctrip's customized travel platform, as of the first half of 2018, the top ten departure places for corporate team building were Shanghai, Beijing, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Hubei, Tianjin, Fujian, and Shandong. Shanghai is the largest source of tourists, and corporate customization will be selected in cities around Jiangsu and Zhejiang that are easy to reach. This is also reflected in the data of destinations in the first half of the year.
