GlobalWebIndex: E-commerce is most prevalent in China, Germany and the UK

GlobalWebIndex keeps track of the number of people shopping online.
Globally, 65% of internet users say they have shopped online (across any device) in the last month. Equally remarkable, 90% say they have shopped online at some point in the past, highlighting the truly global reach of e-commerce.
However, there are strong regional differences: more than 70% of Internet users in North America and Asia Pacific are monthly shoppers, but this proportion is only 44% in the Middle East and Africa.
At a country level, China leads the pack with over 82% of Internet users purchasing online, estimated at nearly 382 million people. Also noteworthy is that 35 million people in China shopped online for the first time in the last twelve months.
Of course, e-commerce is also absolutely mainstream in some of the other most mature Internet markets, such as Germany (78%), the United Kingdom (76%) and the United States (72%). But China is undoubtedly the world's largest online shopping country.
