CNNIC: Data shows that nearly 80% of users recognize the security of online payment

Nearly 80% of users recognize the security of online payment

More than 60% of unsafe payments are fraudulent payments from "phishing" websites

On November 21, 2012, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) released the "2012 China Internet Payment Security Status Report", which showed that as of June 2012, the number of users using online payment in China reached 187 million, with a penetration rate of 34.8% among Internet users. Nearly 80% of users recognized the security of online payment, among which 69.4% of online payment users believed that online payment was relatively safe, and 9.3% of online payment users believed that online payment was very safe; and among the online payment insecurity incidents encountered by users, phishing websites defrauded payment accounted for 64.4%.

According to a CNNIC survey, the main online payment methods used by online payment users in my country are third-party payment account balance payment and online bank payment, which cover 79.2% and 75.7% of payment users respectively. Quick payment and cartoon payment have also become new payment trends, with the proportion of netizens using them reaching 40.4%. Overall, online payment users in my country account for less than 40% of netizens, and there is still a lot of room for growth in the future.

In terms of the use of online payment tools, 80% of online payment users use Alipay to make online payments; Tenpay ranks second with a usage rate of 21.1%; and UnionPay Online ranks third with a usage rate of 16.9%.

In terms of online payment security awareness, 9.3% of online payment users believe that online payment is very safe, 69.4% of online payment users believe that online payment is relatively safe, and only 5.3% of online payment users feel that online payment is not very safe or very unsafe. On the other hand, more than half of online payment users are concerned about the security of online payment. At the same time, 57.6% of users said they do not know how to ensure the security of online payment.

In addition, 3.2% of online payment users said they had encountered payment insecurity incidents in the past six months. The main insecurity problem encountered by users was rash payment after being deceived by fake websites, accounting for as high as 64.4%; payment account or password theft ranked second at 19.2%.
