[Source] Medicinal material source: The root or stem of the Apocynaceae plant.

[Original form] Tree, up to 15m high. The whole plant is latex-sap-like; the twigs are pale to brown, pubescent, and have lenticels. Leaves are opposite; petiole is 3-10mm long, densely covered with short soft hairs; leaf blade is membranous, elliptical or broadly elliptical, 6-18cm long, 3.5-8.5cm wide, with acute to caudate-short pointed apex, acute base, leaf surface covered with sparse soft hairs to glabrous. The back of the leaf is pubescent or densely pubescent; the lateral veins are 10-15 on each side. The inflorescence is terminal and pubescent; the calyx has 5 lobes, broadly ovate, shorter than the corolla tube; the corolla is light yellow to pink or dark red, high-footed saucer-shaped, with 5 corolla lobes, with granular protrusions; the corona is divided into 10 purple scales, with fine teeth at the apex; the stamens are 5, inserted at the top of the corolla tube, the anthers are pubescent to glabrous, extending out of the corolla throat; the ovary consists of 2 sticky carpels, glabrous, the style is filiform, gradually enlarged upwards, and the stigma is head-shaped. The follicles are 2 sticky, oblong, 14-21cm long, 3-4cm wide, and densely covered with white spots. The seeds are linear and spindle-shaped, about 2 cm long, with white silky hairs at the tip, about 3.5 cm long. The flowering period is from May to October, and the fruiting period is from August to March of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in dense forests in mountain valleys at an altitude of 200-1500m or in moist sparse forests at the foot of the mountain.

[Chemical composition] Roots, stems, leaves and seeds contain carbohydrates, unsaturated sterols, triterpenes, flavonoids and alkaloids. The alkaloids that have been isolated are: conkur-chine, conessine, conessidine, holar-rhine and kurchine. Isoflavones isolated from the bark: wrightiadione. Isolated from the stem bark are: 16-n-tritriacont-16-One and hexaconsan-3,6-diol-12-carboxylic acid. Essential amino acids such as strophan-thus acid, threornine, valine, leucine, isoleucine, phenylalanine, lysine and methionine are isolated from the seeds.
