[Original form] Cardamine purpurogenum is a perennial herb, 15-50cm tall. The rhizome is slender and whip-shaped, creeping, with short and few fibrous roots. The stem is single and unbranched, with an inclined base and upright upper part. It has grooves on the surface, is glabrous at the lower part, and has a few soft hairs at the upper part. The leaves are odd-pinnate, with basal leaves with long petioles and 3-5 pairs of leaflets. The terminal and lateral leaflets are both oblong, 1.5-5cm long, 0.5-2cm wide, with short pointed tips, blunt-toothed margins, cuneate bases, no petioles, and a few short soft hairs on both sides and margins; there are usually only 3 stem leaves, which are attached to the middle and upper parts of the stem, with petioles, 1-4cm long, each with 3-5 pairs of leaves, similar to the basal leaflets, but with narrow leaf shape, about 1.5-3cm long and less than 1cm wide. The raceme is terminal, with more than ten flowers; there are 4 sepals, the outer 2 are oblong, the inner one is oblong, 5-7mm long, the base is sac-shaped, the edge is membranous, white, with purple on the outside, and sparsely covered with soft hairs; there are 4 petals, purple, obovate-cuneate, 8-15mm long, truncated at the apex, gradually narrowed to claw-shaped at the base; there are 6 stamens, 4 long and 2 short, the long stamens are about 9mm long, and the short stamens are 7mm long; there is 1 pistil, the ovary is columnar, glabrous, the style is nearly as thick as the ovary, and the stigma is not obvious. The siliques are linear and flat, 3-3.5 cm long, with an ovary stalk about 1 mm long at the base. The seeds are oval or oblong, brown, flowering from May to July, and fruiting from June to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in high mountain ravines, grasslands and shady and moist places under forests at an altitude of 2100-4400m.

【Properties】 Identification: The rhizome is slender with short fibrous roots. The stem is 15-50cm long; the surface is yellow-green with grooves and ridges. The siliques are linear and flat, 3-3.5 cm long, and green-brown. The seeds are oblong or elliptical, about 3mm long and 1mm wide; brown. It has a faint smell and a slightly bitter taste.
