[Source] It is the root or whole herb of Lespedeza sinensis of the Leguminosae family. Harvested in summer and autumn.

[Original form] A small shrub, about 1 meter tall, with flat white hairs all over the plant. Stems erect or spreading. The compound leaves are alternate, with 3 leaflets, obovate-rectangular, 1-2 cm long, 0.5-1 cm wide, truncated at the apex with a short tip, broadly cuneate at the base, slightly curled at the margin, densely covered with short soft hairs on the underside; lateral leaflets are smaller; stipules are linear and hairy. The racemes are axillary, with very short pedicels, few yellow-white flowers; petalless flowers are in the axillaries of the lower branches; bracteoles are lanceolate and hairy; calyx is cup-shaped, with 5 lanceolate teeth; the standard petal is about 8 mm long, the wing petals are nearly the same length as the standard petal, and the keel petal is longer than the standard petal. The pod is oval, 3 to 4 mm long, and contains one seed. Flowering period is from August to September. The fruiting period is from October to November.

[Habitat distribution] It grows under sparse woods on sunny hillsides and in grass beside forests. Distributed in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan and other places.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, stops dysentery, dispels wind, and stops malaria. Treat acute bacterial dysentery, joint pain, and malaria.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5-1 liang.

[Additional prescription] ① For the treatment of acute bacterial dysentery: 50 cents to 50 cents of the root of Lespedeza sinensis. Decoction in water with sugar.
