[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of Ilex triflora, a plant of the Aquifoliaceae family.

[Original form] Ilex trifoliata is an evergreen shrub or small tree. Bark grayish white; twigs brown, glabrous or nearly glabrous, nearly quadrangular. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 5-7mm long; leaf blade is thin leathery or nearly leathery, elliptic, oblong or ovate-elliptic, 3-9cm long, 1.7-4cm wide, with acute or short acuminate tip, rounded or obtuse base, shallowly serrated margin, pubescent or glabrous on both sides, and glandular dots below. Inflorescences clustered in leaf axils; flowers 4; male inflorescences with 1-3 flowers per branch, pedicels 2-3mm long, pubescent, calyx disc-shaped, about 3mm in diameter, lobes ovate, pubescent, corolla about 5mm in diameter, petals broadly ovate, united at base, stamens slightly longer than corolla; female inflorescences with 1-3 flowers per branch, pedicels 6-14mm long, calyx the same as male flowers, corolla nearly erect, petals broadly ovate or nearly circular, united at base; ovary ovoid, about 1.5mm in diameter, stigma thickly disc-shaped. The fruit is nearly spherical, about 7mm in diameter, with a persistent calyx that is flat and purple-black when mature; there are 4 cores, which are ovate-elliptical, about 6mm long, with 3 stripes on the back, no grooves, and the endocarp is leathery. The flowering period is from April to May, and the fruiting period is from July to December.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: It often grows in broad-leaved forests on hillsides and ditches at an altitude of 300-3100m.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies. Mainly for sores, ulcers and swellings

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: decoct in water, 9-15g. For external use: appropriate amount, mash the fresh product for application.
