What are the effects and functions of Trichosanthes seed?

Trichosanthes seed has great medicinal value, but in order to exert its efficacy, it must be correctly combined with other medicinal materials. For example, it can be combined with astragalus, Poria, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Pinellia, etc. to treat mediastinal malignant tumors, and it also has a good therapeutic effect on basic diseases such as lung cancer or esophageal cancer.

1. Thoracic tumors: Some people reported that the use of 180g of whole guaweiren, combined with raw coix seed, astragalus, tuckahoe, salvia miltiorrhiza, pinellia, pangolin and other drugs to treat mediastinal malignant tumors had satisfactory results.

2. Lung cancer: Some people use Trichosanthes kirilowii with placenta, Prunella vulgaris, lily, Sophora flavescens, etc., one dose per day, decocted in water and taken to treat lung cancer. The results showed that there was a significant effect in 1 case, effective in 30 cases, and ineffective in 2 cases.

3. Esophageal cancer: Some people reported that using Trichosanthes kirilowii seed as the main medicine, combined with Salvia miltiorrhiza, Scutellaria barbata, Curcuma zedoaria, etc., or with Fritillaria thunbergii, Pinellia ternata, Citrus aurantium, etc., can treat advanced esophageal cancer of Qi stagnation and blood stasis type and phlegm-dampness condensation type. One dose per day, 400ml of decoction, taken frequently day and night, 60 doses as a course of treatment. If the effect is good, change the decoction to powder, take 10g each time, twice a day. If the effect is poor, insist on taking the decoction for 2 courses of treatment. Some patients' symptoms improved significantly, and they could swallow food smoothly and eat dry and hard food.

4. Toxic and side effects: Taking too much Trichosanthes seed internally can cause stomach discomfort, severe vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. These reactions to Trichosanthes cream are mild. Others reported that 7 out of 413 cases of intravenous infusion of Trichosanthes injection had adverse reactions, with symptoms including chest tightness. Drop in blood pressure, lower abdominal pain, chills, low fever, dizziness, etc. However, all recipients of intramuscular injection had no adverse reactions.
