[Source] Medicinal material source: The tuberous root of the plant Mesenteryx microphylla of the Menispermaceae family.

[Original form] Small-leaved ground-tolerant perennial deciduous vine, 2-5m long. The whole plant is hairless. The skin is brown and rough. When the stems, branches and leaves are broken, red juice oozes out. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 3-8cm long and peltate; leaf blade is nearly round or triangular round, 5-9cm long and wide, with short pointed tip, blunt head with small convex tip, slightly concave or truncate base, entire margin, and densely covered with small papillae on the underside of the leaf; 5 palmate veins, papery. The flowers are small, unisexual, and dioecious; male plants have compound cymes, solitary in leaf axils, or several growing on short branches, with a peduncle 6-8cm long, a pseudocyme 0.5-2cm long, slightly curved at the end, linear bracteoles, and very short cyme peduncles and pedicels; male flowers: 6 sepals, arranged in 2 whorls, the outer whorl is oblanceolate-spatulate, about 1.2mm long, the inner whorl is wider, with small papillae on the back; 3 petals, purple, shell-shaped, slightly shorter than sepals, folded inward on both sides of the base; stamen column 0.5mm long, 6 anthers. The infructescence is slightly densely compound cymose, with the pseudocymose pedicels usually no more than 1 cm. The fruit pedicel is fleshy, the drupe endocarp is obovate, about 6mm long, with 4 rows of hook-like carvings on the back, about 20 seeds in each row, and a perforation in the middle of the placenta.

【Habitat distribution】Ecological environment: grows near rocks.

【Properties】 1. Identification: The tuber is spherical, with a diameter of 10-50cm. The cut surface of the slice is grayish yellow with irregular wrinkles.

【Chemical composition】 The root tuber of Microphylla contains crebanine, dehydrocrebanine, oxocrebanine, crebanine N-oxide, tetrahydropalmatine, corydalmine, dehydrocorydalmine, phanostenine, discretamine, corypalmine, asimilobine and cycleanine.

[Identification] Physical and chemical identification (1) Take 1g of crude powder of this product, add 10ml of ethanol, soak overnight and filter. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness and 4 ml of dilute hydrochloric acid was added to the residue to dissolve it. Take 1 ml of the filtrate and add 2 drops of improved potassium bismuth iodide test solution to produce a large amount of orange precipitate; add potassium mercuric iodide test solution to produce a large amount of yellow-white precipitate. (Check for bioalkali) (2) Observe the root powder under ultraviolet light (254nm), it will show light yellow fluorescence with a very light purple color.
