[Alias] Hawk-billed turtle, big-headed turtle, hawk turtle

[Source] Medicinal material source: The whole body of the big-headed flat-breasted turtle of the family Testudinidae.

[Original form] Big-headed flat-breasted turtle, carapace length 65-156mm, width 55-113mm, shell height 34-57mm. The head is large and the neck is short, unable to retract into the shell. The back of the head is covered with large horny shields. The jaw is thick and significantly hooked like an eagle's beak. The carapace is oblong, with a concave middle front edge, a flat ridge and a longitudinal ridge. The cervical shield is extremely short and wide, and the plastron is slightly rectangular, with a flat front edge and a concave rear edge; it has a lower edge shield. The tips of the fingers and toes are webbed and have claws. There are cone-shaped scales behind the thighs and on the sides of the anus. The tail is very long with rectangular scales arranged in a spherical shape. The back is brown-black with many light orange-yellow dots, the vertebral shield has radiating black lines, each costal shield has a small black spot, the plastron is olive green, the ridges of the juvenile are obvious, the 8th marginal shield is serrated, the carapace is gray-green, brown or reddish-brown, and the belly is orange-red.
