[Original form] Mabaoer, climbing or prostrate herb. Tuberous root. The stems and branches are slender, grooved and hairless. Tendrils unbranched. The petiole is slender, 2.5-3.5cm long, the leaf blade is membranous, polymorphic, triangular-ovate, ovate-cordate or halberd-shaped, lobed or 3-5 shallowly lobed, 3-5cm long, 2-4cm wide, dark green on the upper side, with very short soft hairs on the veins, light green on the back, glabrous, with a pointed tip or sparsely short and acuminate, a curved and semicircular base, slightly wavy margins or sparsely serrated, and veins palmate. Monoecious; male flowers solitary or rarely 2-3 borne on short racemes, peduncles slender, very short, pedicels filiform, calyx broadly bell-shaped, calyx teeth 5, corolla 5-lobed, light yellow, with very short pubescence, stamens 3, 2 in 2-chambered, 1 in 1-chambered, sometimes all in 2-chambered; female flowers solitary or twin in the same leaf axil as male flowers, ovary narrowly ovate, with warty protrusions, style short, stigma 3-lobed, reduced stamens glandular. The fruit is oblong or narrowly ovate, blunt at both ends, hairless on the outside, 1-1.5 cm long, 0.5-0.8 cm wide, and orange-red or red when ripe. The seeds are grayish white, oval, slightly narrowed at the base, and with unclear edges. The flowering period is from April to July, and the fruiting period is from July to October.
