[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Altai thyme, a plant of the Lamiaceae family.

[Original form] Aarnais thyme, semi-shrub. Stems prostrate or ascending, with sterile branches or flowering branches at the end; sterile branches are mostly lateral or basal, ascending or prostrate, pubescent; flowering branches ascend at base, most 4-8cm long, pubescent or short pubescent below inflorescence, nearly glabrous at base, with 2-4 internodes. The leaves are oblong-elliptic or ovate, rarely obovate, 5-10mm long, 1-3mm wide, obtuse or acute at apex, gradually narrowed at base into a short petiole, entire, often with a few long hairs at base, glabrous on both sides, 2-3 pairs of lateral veins, relatively stout, raised underneath, with obvious or unclear glandular dots, and the first leaves are often densely distributed at the base of branches and fall off. The inflorescence is capitate, sometimes with 1-2 rudimentary cymes under the inflorescence; the pedicel is 1-4mm long, densely covered with short soft hairs; the calyx is bell-shaped, 3.5-4.5mm long, sparsely covered with soft hairs at the bottom, glabrous at the top, and the teeth of the upper lip are nearly triangular to lanceolate, without tricholoma or covered with short stiff hairs; the corolla is reddish purple, 5.5-6.5mm long, and covered with short soft hairs on the outside. Flowering period is July-August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows along ditches, in grasslands and on gravel ground.

【Properties and flavors】 Spicy; Cool; Slightly toxic

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; promotes diuresis and relieves stranguria; kills insects. It is used for colds and coughs; sore throats; painful stranguria caused by heat; sores, carbuncles, swellings and poisons; and for killing fleas, lice and mosquitoes.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 6-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount, decoct in water for washing; or light and smoke.
