[Source] Medicinal material source: the stems and leaves of Cyperus rotundus, a plant of the Cyperaceae family.

[Original form] Windmill grass, perennial herb, 30-150cm tall. The rhizome is short and thick, and the fibrous roots are hard. The culm is thick, clumped, and nearly cylindrical. There are no leaves, and there are brown sheaths at the base of the stem. There are about 20 bracts, linear, twice as long as the inflorescence, 2-11mm wide, and radiate; the long lateral cymes are repeatedly re-emerged, with 4-10 first radiating branches, the longest up to 7cm; the second radiating branches are up to 15cm long; the spikelets are densely packed into nearly head-shaped spikes at the top; the spikelets are elliptical or oblong-acicular, 3-8mm long, 1.5-3mm wide, flattened, with 6-26 flowers and wingless spikelet axes; the scales are closely arranged, membranous, ovate, about 2mm long, white or yellowish brown, with rusty spots, and 3-5 veins; there are 3 stamens, the anthers are linear, with bristle-like appendages at the tip; the style is short, with 3 stigmas. The nutlets are oval, nearly triangular, 1/3 the length of the scales, and brown.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in swamps and waterlogged areas along rivers in forests and grasslands, or cultivated in ponds.
