The role of Chinese medicine Huangjing

Long-term bad living habits will always cause our bodies to be troubled by some diseases. There are many Chinese medicinal materials that can regulate our bodies very well. Among them, Polygonatum sibiricum is a common Chinese medicinal material. However, if you want to regulate and improve your body through Chinese medicinal materials, you must master its effects and use them in combination with your physical condition. Let’s learn about the effects of Polygonatum sibiricum in the Chinese medicine encyclopedia.

The role of Chinese medicine Huangjing

Clinical Application

1. Treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis: Take Polygonatum sibiricum, steam and dry it, wash and chop it, add 5 times the amount of water, simmer it over low heat for 24 hours, filter out the residue, and then simmer the filtrate over low heat, stirring constantly, until it becomes an extract, cool, and bottle it for later use. Generally, 5 jin of polygonatum can be used to make 1 jin of polygonatum extract, and each milliliter is equivalent to 5g of polygonatum. Dosage: 4 times a day, 10 ml each time. 19 cases were clinically observed, all of which were infiltrative pulmonary tuberculosis, including 9 cases in the infiltrative stage, 2 cases in the infiltrative dissolution stage, 1 case each in the dissolution and dissemination stage and the absorption and improvement stage, and 6 cases in the quiescent stage. There were 11 cases with bilateral lesions and 6 cases with cavities. After taking Polygonatum sibiricum extract alone for 2 months, the lesions were completely absorbed in 4 cases, the absorption was improved in 12 cases, and there was no change in 3 cases. There were 6 cavities, 2 closures and 4 reductions to varying degrees. Sputum bacterial examination turned negative in most cases; ESR returned to normal in most cases. Body weight and clinical symptoms also improved.

2. Treatment of ringworm: Take Polygonatum sibiricum, mash it, soak it in 95% alcohol for 1-2 days, distill off most of the alcohol, concentrate it, add 3 times of water, precipitate it, take the filtrate, evaporate the rest of the alcohol, concentrate it to a thin paste, which is the crude liquid of Polygonatum sibiricum. Apply directly to the affected area, twice a day. It generally has certain therapeutic effects on tinea pedis and tinea lumbaris, especially on the blister and erosive types of tinea pedis. The efficacy for the keratinized type of tinea pedis is poor, which may be because the fungus is located in the thicker keratinized epidermis, and Polygonatum sibiricum has no ability to exfoliate or penetrate the epidermis. The crude liquid of Polygonatum sibiricum is painless when applied, and no adverse reactions are observed. The disadvantage is that it is easy to stain clothes.

Pharmacological Action

1. Anti-pathogenic microbial effect: In vitro tests show that the water extract of Polygonatum sibiricum (1:320) has an inhibitory effect on Salmonella typhi, Staphylococcus aureus, and acid-fast bacilli. 2% Polygonatum sibiricum has different degrees of inhibitory effect on common pathogenic fungi in Sabouraud culture medium.

2. Effect on blood sugar: When rabbits were gavaged with Polygonatum sibiricum extract, their blood sugar levels gradually increased and then decreased. Polygonatum sibiricum extract has a significant inhibitory effect on hyperglycemia caused by adrenaline.

3. Anti-fatigue effect: Intraperitoneal injection of 0.3 ml/mouse of 17.67% Polygonatum sibiricum decoction can prolong the swimming time of mice.

4. Antioxidant effect: 20% concentration of Polygonatum sibiricum decoction, 13 ml/mouse per drink, for 27 consecutive days, increased the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the mouse liver and reduced the content of myocardial lipofuscin.

5. Anti-aging effect: 20% concentration of Polygonatum sibiricum decoction is used to soak mulberry leaves and feed silkworms, which has the effect of prolonging the larval stage of silkworms.

6. Hemostatic effect: 40 mg/mouse of methanol extract of Polygonatum sibiricum, 20 mg/mouse of n-butanol fraction and 20 mg/mouse of aqueous fraction were injected intraperitoneally. The tail of mice was frozen with dry ice-methanol for 1 minute. The tail cutting experiment showed that it had a hemostatic effect and reduced the amount of bleeding in mice.

7. Effects on cardiovascular system: Intravenous injection of 0.16-0.26g/kg of Polygonatum sibiricum water extract significantly increased the coronary flow of anesthetized dogs; intravenous injection of 1.5g/kg had an antagonistic effect on myocardial ischemia in rabbits caused by vasopressin, antagonized the increase in T waves caused by vasopressin, and promoted the early recovery of abnormal T waves; intraperitoneal injection of 12g/kg could enhance the tolerance of mice to hypoxia.

8. Antiviral effect: Polygonatum sibiricum polysaccharide 0.2% eye drops, 6 times/day, or taking Polygonatum sibiricum polysaccharide 10 mg/kg, 2 times/day, has a therapeutic effect on experimental herpes simplex virus keratitis in rabbits.

9. Other effects: Oral administration of 6g/kg of Polygonatum sibiricum decoction for 10 consecutive days can increase the Na+, K+-ATPase activity of mouse erythrocyte membrane. Intraperitoneal injection of 0.3 ml of 40% Polygonatum sibiricum alcohol extract can increase the incorporation rate of 3H~TdR into the DNA of mouse myocardial, liver and spleen tissue cells. Oral administration of 0.5 g of Polygonatum sibiricum decoction to mice decreased the levels of plasma cAMP and cGMP, with cGMP decreasing more, so the cAMP/cGMP ratio was greater than that of the control group. The cAMP and cGMP levels in spleen tissue increased, but the cAMP/cGMP ratio did not change significantly.

The above is an introduction to the effects of Huangjing, a Chinese medicine. After understanding it, we know that Huangjing has many regulating effects on the body, but we must not use it blindly. It is best to use it under the guidance of a doctor. After all, it is a medicine, and improper use will cause certain harm to the body.
