[Source] It is the roots and young leaves of the small-fruited Rosa macrocarpa of the Rosaceae family. It can be harvested throughout the year, but October to November is the best time.

[Original form] Deciduous climbing shrub, about 5 meters high. Branchlets slender, with curved prickles. Odd-pinnate compound leaves are alternate; leaflets are 3 to 7, elliptic or ovate-lanceolate, 1 to 6 cm long, 0.7 to 2 cm wide, acuminate or obtuse at apex, cuneate-residual-circular at base, serrated at margin, smooth on both sides; petiole is slender, 1 to 2 cm long; stipules are pointed, free from petiole, and fall off early. The flowers are white, about 2 cm in diameter, and often clustered at the top of branches to form an umbel; there are 5 sepals. The back has spiny hairs; the petals are 5, ovate, and alternate with the sepals; the stamens are numerous, the outer filaments are long, the inner filaments are short, and the color is yellow; the pistils are numerous, the ovary is superior, the osmanthus protrudes from the calyx tube, and is covered with short soft hairs. Rose hips are small, spherical, 5 mm or longer in diameter, and red when ripe. Flowering period is from April to May. The fruiting period is from June to July.
