The flowers are dioecious, with male inflorescences arranged in compound spikes. The spikes are golden yellow, cylindrical, 10-15 cm long, 2-3 cm wide, with spathes, and leaf-like; there are 3-5 stamens, clustered at the top of the filament column, and the anthers are 5 mm long, linear, with long and curved awns at the top; the style of female flowers is 2-3 lobed, the carpels do not gather into groups, and the stigma is shiny, dichotomous, and curved. The fruit is a compound fruit, solitary, oblong, nearly triangular, reddish brown, with many hooked spines. Flowering period is August.
