【Original form】 Shrub, about 1m high. The stem is obtusely quadrangular and has many branches. The surface of the aboveground parts is densely covered with closely attached scaly, rough or short hairs, which are flat and have fringed edges. Leaves are opposite; petiole is 5-10mm long; leaf blade is hard and papery, lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate or nearly elliptic, 5.4-13cm long, 1.6-4.4cm wide, acuminate at apex, rounded or nearly cuneate at base, entire; 5 basal veins. The corymbs grow at the top of the branches, are nearly capitate, with more than 10 flowers and 2 leaf-like involucres at the base; the pedicels are 3-10mm long and the flowers are 5 in number; the calyx is about 1.6cm long, with broad lanceolate lobes, as long as or slightly longer than the calyx tube, with a small lobe between the lobes; the petals are pink to red, rarely purple-red, obovate, about 2cm long, with rounded apex and only ciliate on the upper part; there are 5 long stamens and 5 short stamens, the base of the longer ones' connectives are elongated and the ends are deeply lobed and curved, while the connectives of the shorter ones are not elongated, and each has a small tubercle at the base of the anther chamber; the ovary is semi-inferior, densely strigose, with a circle of dense bristles at the apex.
