[Source] Medicinal material source: The bulb of the plant Realgarbha of the Iridaceae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 50-120cm tall. The bulb is oblate and covered with a brown reticular membrane. Leaves are mostly basal; sword-shaped, 40-60cm long, 1.4-1.7cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, sheath-like at the base, and arranged in two overlapping rows. The flower stem is 30-40cm long, with 2-4 branches on the upper part, and many flowers forming sparse spike-like panicles; each flower has 2 membranous bracts at the base. The flowers are orange-yellow, bilaterally symmetrical, 2.7-4cm in diameter, with 6 perianth lobes arranged in 2 whorls, about 2cm long and 5mm wide. The perianth tube is slightly curved, 6-8mm long; there are 3 stamens, biased to one side of the flower, 1.5-1.8cm long, and the filaments are attached to the perianth tube. The ovary is inferior, green, oblong, about 5mm long, and the style is 2.8-3cm long with 3 lobes at the tip. Capsule, triangular spherical, seeds elliptical. Flowering period is July-August, and fruiting period is August-October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: often semi-wild.

[Cultivation] Biological characteristics: It prefers sunshine and is cold-resistant. It is suitable to be planted in well-drained, loose and fertile sandy loam, and the soil must have sufficient moisture during the growing period. The bulbs can overwinter in the open field. The cultivation technique is mainly based on bulb division, which is usually done once every three years. Dig up the bulbs before new buds sprout in spring, and plant them separately, with a spacing of 10-20cm between plants and a depth of about 3 times the height of the bulbs. Field management: Before planting, the soil should be fully plowed, and well-rotted base fertilizer should be applied to form high ridges.
