Simple leaves are alternate; leathery; petiolate; ovate or rectangular, 4-8 cm long, 2-3.5 cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, broadly cuneate or nearly rounded at the base, entire or slightly wavy, green and glabrous on both sides, with very obvious lateral veins on the underside. Axillary cymes or sometimes terminal panicles; small flowers, greenish-white; calyx 5-lobed, lobes triangular; 5 petals, spoon-shaped; 5 stamens; ovary 2-chambered, hidden in a pentagonal disk. The nut is spherical, reddish-brown when ripe, with a duck-tongue-shaped, thin, membranous wing on the top, 3 to 5 cm long. Flowering period is summer.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in sparse woods or bushes in mountains and ditches. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi and other places.

[Chemical composition] The root contains alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, amino acids and anthraquinones.

【Functions and indications】Replenishes Qi and blood, dispels wind and activates collaterals. Treats deficiency of qi and blood, rheumatic pain, and traumatic injuries.
