[Source] Medicinal material source: The fruiting body of the fungus Ledermatophyte of the Ledermatophyte family.

[Original morphology] The fruiting body is flat or spherical at first, and becomes kidney-shaped, ear-shaped or fan-shaped when unfolded. Sessile, often stacked together, gelatinous when fresh, hard and brittle when dry, up to 15 (30) cm in diameter and 3 cm thick. The edge is rolled inward, sometimes wavy; the surface of the cap is covered with a dense layer of villi, about 1mm thick, dirty white, milky white, apricot yellow to orange-red, the edge villi are short and sparse, light in color, and the surface is grayish white to light yellow after drying. The lower surface (the fruiting body surface) is milky white to light orange-red with small warts; the small warts are arranged radially and have a diameter of (1-3) mm × 1 mm. The flesh is thick, light orange-red, and gelatinous. The cyst is cylindrical or drum-shaped in the middle, (100-130)μm×(5-7-10)μm. Spores are elliptical to sausage-shaped, smooth, colorless, (2.5-3)μm×(6-6.5)μm.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown on dead trunks or stumps of elm and spring elm.

【Properties】 Characteristic identification: The fruiting body is sessile. The cap is kidney-shaped, ear-shaped or fan-shaped, with a diameter of up to 15 cm and a thickness of about 3 cm. The surface is covered with a soft and thick layer of villi, which is grayish white with light yellow, some with ring patterns, and the edges are petal-shaped and often curled. The hymenium on the lower surface is nearly light reddish brown or amber brown, with radial ridges and many small warts on it. Hard texture. Slight odor, light taste.

[Chemical composition] The fruiting body contains merulinic acid A, B, C, and α-bisabolol.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and dampness; cools blood and stops dysentery. Main red and white dysentery

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: cook or decoct in water; or use the water and flour to make pancakes; it can also be ground into powder.
