[Original form] Osmanthus fragrans is a perennial rosette-shaped herb, about 7 cm tall. The roots are thick, up to 1.5 cm in diameter, yellow-brown or gray-brown on the surface, with petiole remnants at the tip. Leaves are alternate; basal petioles are longer, upper petioles are slightly shorter; basal leaves are more numerous; expanded and spread to the ground, leaves are not divided; stem leaves are obovate or oblong-lanceolate, 13-30cm long, 5-12cm wide, obtuse at the apex, gradually narrowing at the base to form a petiole, purple-red, irregularly divided at the edge, with wavy teeth, hairy above, nearly pale below, with hair on the veins. There are many capitulum inflorescences, usually in groups of 8; the inflorescence stalk is very short or absent; the involucral bracts are 5-6 layers; the receptacle has no stalks, and the pappus is nearly 3 layers, mostly erect; the corolla is purple-red, the management part is very narrow, about twice as long as the eaves; the anther is sky blue, with a tear-like tail at the base. Achenes smooth, ribbed, with persistent pappus. Flowering and fruiting period is July-August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in grasslands on the edge of mountain forests or sunny slopes at an altitude of 3000-3500m.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The root is cylindrical or semi-cylindrical, slightly similar to chicken bones, 5-25cm long and 0.5-2cm in diameter.
