[Source] It is the seeds of Caesalpinis scpiaria Roxb., a plant of the genus Caesalpinis in the Fabaceae family. Harvest 4 to 5 years after planting. Dig up the roots in autumn and winter, wash and cut into oblique slices, and dry them in the sun or on a kang. Pick the fruits in autumn, remove the peel, and take the seeds and dry them in the sun.

[Original form] A climbing shrub, 3 to 4 meters long, with young branches densely covered with short brown soft hairs that fall off when old. The thorns are mostly hooked and light brown-red. Bipinnate leaves are alternate. It blooms in late spring, with lateral racemes and shiny yellow corollas. The pods are oblong, oblique, 6 to 12 cm long, with a beak and narrow wings about 3 to 4 mm wide along the ventral seam. There are 6 to 9 seeds, which are rectangular and dark brown.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy, warm. The seeds are poisonous.

【Functions and indications】Seeds: Anti-dysentery, anti-parasitic. Used for dysentery, hookworm disease, and ascariasis. Root: dispels cold, removes wind and activates blood circulation. Used for colds, rheumatic pains, bruises, and snake bites.

[Usage and Dosage] Seeds 1 to 3 qian; roots 0.5 to 1 liang. Decoction in water or soak in wine.
