What are the functions of li hexin? As a traditional Chinese medicine, li hexin can not only be used to treat diseases, but also can be combined with some other medicinal materials to make medicinal food, which has a very good effect on regulating the human body. Today we’d like to introduce you to Li Heren.

[Alias] Li Ren, Li Ziren, Xiao Li Ren (Sichuan Chinese Materia Medica).

[Source] The seeds of Prunus mume, a plant of the Rosaceae family. The kernels are harvested in June and July. Wash, break the shell, take out the seeds and dry them.

[Habitat distribution] Mainly produced in Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Henan and other places.

[Properties] The dry seeds are flat and oblong, 6-10 mm long, 4-7 mm wide, about 2 mm thick, and not very full. The endocarp is brownish yellow with obvious longitudinal wrinkles. There are two cotyledons, which are white and contain a lot of oil. The smell is faint and the taste is not bitter. Like sweet almond flavor. It is best to use complete and dry ones.

【Chemical composition】 The seeds contain amygdalin.

【Nature and flavor】 "Bielu": "Tastes sweet and bitter, neutral, non-toxic."

【Meridian】 "Ben Cao Qiu Yuan": "enters the liver meridian."

【Functions and indications】Disperses blood stasis, promotes diuresis, and moistens the intestines. It is used to treat pain caused by bruises and blood stasis, cough due to phlegm and fluid, edema due to water vapor, constipation, and pain caused by insect and scorpion stings.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 2 to 4 qian. For external use: grind into powder and apply on skin.

【Note】 "Sichuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Annals": "It is not suitable for patients with weak spleen and loose stools, kidney deficiency and spermatorrhea, and pregnant women."

[Additional prescription] ①To treat facial inflammation: apply powdered plum kernels and egg whites. (Qianjin Fang)

[Remarks] In Sichuan area, the above species is called small plum kernel. There is another kind of large plum kernel, which is the seed of the same plant, apricot plum, and is used in the same way. The kernel of large plum is obovate or short conical, slightly flat, pointed at one end, about 8 to 11 mm long, relatively full, with an endocarp of earthy yellow or dark yellow, with no wrinkles or slight wrinkles, and two cotyledons, which are milky white and rich in oil.
