[Original form] Golden foxtail grass, an annual solitary or clumping herb. The culm is erect or inclined and knee-shaped at the base, with roots growing at nodes near the ground. It is 20-90 cm high, smooth and hairless, with only the underside of the inflorescence slightly rough. The leaf sheath is flattened with ridges at the bottom, rounded at the top, smooth and hairless, with a thin film on the edge, smooth and without cilia; the ligule has a circle of cilia about 1 mm long; the leaf blades are linear-lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate, 5-40 cm long, 2-10 mm wide, with a long acuminate tip, obtuse base, rough above, smooth below, and sparsely covered with long soft hairs near the base. Inflorescence densely cylindrical or narrowly conical, 3-17cm long, 4-8mm wide (excluding bristles), main axis with short fine pubescence, bristles golden yellow, rough, 4-8mm long, usually with only one developed spikelet in a cluster; first glume broadly ovate or ovate, 1/3 or 1/2 as long as spikelet, with pointed apex and 3 veins; second glume broadly ovate, 1/2-2/3 as long as spikelet, with slightly obtuse apex and 5-7 veins; first floret male or neutral, first lemma as long as spikelet or slightly shorter, with 5 veins, its palea membranous, equal in length and width to the second floret, with 2 veins, usually containing 3 stamens or none; second floret bisexual, lemma leathery, equal in length and width to the first lemma, with pointed apex, extremely raised on the back when mature, with obvious transverse wrinkles; scales cuneate; styles united at base. Flowering and fruiting period is from June to October.

[Chemical composition] The seed oil contains palmitic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid and linolenic acid.
