The leaves are opposite, papery, rectangular or narrowly rectangular, 8.5-17 cm long, 2.8-5.5 cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, with eyelash-like serrations on the edges (with glands at the ends of the teeth), glabrous, with small brown-red dots on the underside; the petiole is 5-9 mm long. The inflorescence is axillary, with a peduncle 5-10 mm long; the bracts are small, membranous, and broadly ovate; the flowers are sessile, with 2-3 flowers growing at the top of the inflorescence branches; the calyx is spherical, 3-5 mm long, with 6-7 lobes, triangular; the petals are usually 6-7, white or light red, ovate, nearly as long as the calyx lobes, usually with claws, and with small teeth on the edges; there are 12-14 stamens; the ovary is inferior, with 5 chambers. The fruit is spherical, leathery, indehiscent, and 6 to 7 mm in diameter. 1 to 3 seeds.
