[Source] Medicinal material source: The leaves of Castanea foetida, a plant of the Fagaceae family.

[Original form] Deciduous shrub or small tree. Young branches are pubescent, with buds ovate, 2-3 mm long. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 0.6-1cm long and have short hairs; leaf blades are thin leathery, oblong or obovate-oblong, 6-14cm long, 3-7cm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate, obtuse or slightly nearly cordate, often oblique to one side, with short thorn-like serrations on the margins, 12-17 pairs of pinnate lateral veins, shiny above, with hairs on the veins, brownish yellow below, with scaly glandular dots. Flowers are unisexual and monoecious; male inflorescences are spike-shaped, solitary in the axils of new branches, erect, 6-7cm long, with single flowers and 10-14 stamens; female flowers are borne at the lower part of the male inflorescence, usually in clusters of three, with an inferior ovary and 6 chambers. The involucre is nearly spherical, 3-4cm in diameter, with slender sharp spines on the outside, 4-5.5mm long, densely grown, with 3-7 nuts in each cupule, usually 3; the nuts are oblate, 1-1.5cm in diameter, and brown. The flowering period is May, and the fruiting period is September-October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: It likes light, tolerates drought and barrenness, is wild, and often grows in sunny thickets on low mountains and hills below 2000m above sea level.
