Inflorescence capitulate, solitary at the top of the stem; involucre hemispherical, 5-6cm in diameter, involucre usually 12 layers, imbricately arranged, gradually longer towards the inner layer, appendages ovate, broadly triangular or nearly rhombus, up to 7mm long and wide, densely white pubescent on both sides; inner and innermost layers lanceolate and linear-lanceolate, excluding the apex appendages 1.5-1.8cm long, 2-3mm wide, apex appendages long ovate, brown, densely white pubescent on both sides, 6-8mm long, 2-5mm wide; florets are all bisexual, purple-red, corolla 2.5cm long, tubule length 1.4cm long, corolla lobes 7mm long, linear. Achenes are oblong, 7mm long, 2mm wide, brown, with 4 edges and distinct ribs between the edges; pappus are multi-layered, gradually longer towards the inner layer, up to 1.8cm long, connected into a ring at the base, and fall off as a whole; pappus bristles are short and feather-like. Flowering and fruiting period is July.
