The outer surface is gray-brown to gray-brown, with slight longitudinal wrinkles, some of which are shallow cracks, densely covered with obvious oval transverse lenticels, brown or brown-red, occasionally with protruding transverse ridges or larger circular branch marks, often with lichen spots; the inner surface is light yellow-brown or yellow-white, smooth, with fine longitudinal lines. It is hard and brittle, easy to break, and the cross section is fibrous and flaky, light yellowish brown or yellowish white. The fibers are slender, with a diameter of 7 to 22 μm, often in bundles. The surrounding cells contain prismatic calcium oxalate crystals to form crystalline fibers. The walls of the crystalline cells are unevenly thickened and are lignified or slightly lignified. The diameter of calcium oxalate crystals is 5 to 26 μm. The phloem thin-walled cells are relatively small, with slightly thicker walls. The pits are round when viewed from the radial side, and some are clustered together. When viewed from the tangential side, the cell walls are slightly thickened in a beaded manner.
