Thyroid Chinese Medicine

The incidence of thyroid disease is relatively high, which is mainly caused by iodine deficiency and may also be caused by abnormal thyroid function. Therefore, we should know how to treat thyroid disease. For the symptoms of hyperthyroidism, we can take Yuyin Zhikang Decoction and Jiaokang Decoction for treatment. A cure for hyperthyroidism

1. Yuyin Zhikang Decoction

[Rhyme] To nourish yin and control hyperactivity, use Scrophularia, Angelica, White Peony, Rehmannia, Seaweed, Kun, Oyster, Fritillaria, Dioscorea bulbifera, Ophiopogon, Pumice and Curcuma.

[Composition] 15 grams each of raw rehmannia and Scrophularia, 10 grams each of Ophiopogon japonicus, Dioscorea bulbifera, Fritillaria thunbergii, Kelp, Sargassum, Angelica sinensis, White Peony Root, Curcuma aromatica, and Pumice, and 20 grams of raw oyster.

[Usage] Soak the above medicine in cold water for 30 minutes, then boil for 30 minutes, decoct twice for each dose. Take 1 dose daily, the first two decoctions divided into morning and evening. The dosage can also be doubled to make a finished medicine.

【Effects】Softens and disperses lumps, resolves phlegm and eliminates goiter.

[Explanation of the prescription] Traditional Chinese medicine calls "hyperthyroidism" "goiter qi". Its pathogenesis is liver depression transforming into fire, liver yang rising, qi stagnation and blood stasis. The treatment should be to nourish yin and suppress yang, control the excited qi, soften and disperse the nodules, and resolve the stasis in the blood vessels. This prescription uses raw rehmannia, scrophularia, and ophiopogon to nourish yin and control yang; Dioscorea buddleja, oyster, kelp, seaweed, Fritillaria, and pumice to soften hard masses and resolve blood stasis; and angelica, white peony root, and curcuma to guide the medicine into the liver to produce blood and relieve depression, so that the liver qi is relaxed, blood stasis is removed and nodules are dispersed, yang is balanced, and yin is restored, and the disease is cured.

[Indications] Hyperthyroidism (goiter), symptoms include Yin deficiency and Yang hyperactivity, restlessness, anger, bulging eyes, good appetite but thinness, hand tremors, insomnia, etc.

[Additions and subtractions] For thyroid enlargement or adenoma, add Trillium, Curcuma or Xiaojin Pills.

[Note] During the medication period, patients should be advised to be careful not to get excited and avoid eating irritating foods, such as rooster, carp, etc. Eat more kelp to avoid recurrence.

2. Hyperthyroidism Decoction

[Rhyme] The hyperthyroidism soup uses Prunella vulgaris, oyster, dandelion, coptis chinensis, tangerine peel, silver clams, amaranth seeds, algae, kun, Gan Ding, and wild chrysanthemum.

[Ingredients] 24 grams of oyster powder, 60 grams of selfheal, 30 grams of dandelion, 10 grams of Dioscorea bulbifera, 10 grams of stir-fried orange seeds, 10 grams of Fritillaria thunbergii, 15 grams of Aquilegia vulgaris, 10 grams of Bupleurum chinense, 15 grams of seaweed, 15 grams of kelp, 30 grams of Plantago asiatica, 10 grams of wild chrysanthemum, and 10 grams of licorice.

【Usage】 Decoction in water. Take 1 dose daily, divided into 3 times.

【Effects】Clears away heat and resolves phlegm, softens and disperses lumps.

[Formula explanation] This disease is caused by stagnation of fire in the liver and gallbladder, which burns body fluid into phlegm and accumulates in the front of the neck. Therefore, the prescription uses kelp and seaweed, which are salty and cold, and can eliminate phlegm and disperse goiters, and are the main medicines for treating this disease; Prunella vulgaris clears away heat and disperses nodules, Fritillaria resolves phlegm and disperses nodules, orange seed regulates qi and disperses nodules, and oyster softens and disperses nodules. Together, they help kelp and seaweed to eliminate phlegm and disperse goiters; Dioscorea bulbifera cools blood and reduces fire, disperses blood stasis and detoxifies; Bupleurum chinense clears liver heat; Taraxacum mongolicum, Gastrodia elatior, Plantago asiatica, and Chrysanthemum officinale all have the functions of clearing heat and detoxifying, eliminating blood stasis and dispersing swelling; Licorice harmonizes all the medicines. The combination of these medicines can clear away heat and purge fire, regulate qi and resolve phlegm, soften and disperse lumps.

[Indications] Goiter (hyperthyroidism), symptoms include swelling on the front side or both sides of the neck, frequent feelings of panic, irritability, easy excitement, excessive sweating and thirst, increased appetite, and even swelling of the eyeballs with a noticeably protruding appearance.

[Note] It is effective after repeated use and generally the patient will be cured after taking about 30 doses.

Previous generations said that seaweed and kelp are the opposite of licorice, but when used in clinical practice, they not only have no adverse reactions but can also improve the efficacy. If individual patients have adverse reactions, licorice may not be used.
