[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of Populus rubrum, a plant of the Anacardiaceae family.

[Original form] Populus rubra is a deciduous tree or small tree, 4-15m tall. The bark is gray-brown, and the twigs are slightly puberulent. Odd-pinnate compound leaves are alternate, with narrow wings on the upper part of the rachis; with 7-13 leaflets, sessile or nearly sessile, ovate-oblong or oblong, 5-12cm long, 2-4.5cm wide, acuminate or long acuminate at the apex, rounded or nearly cordate at the base, entire, with fine hairs along the veins on the underside. The panicle is terminal, 15-20cm long, densely covered with fine hairs; the flowers are small, variegated, and white; the lobes of the flowers are narrowly triangular; the petals are oblong, with the tip rolled outward when blooming; the filaments are linear; the anthers are ovate; the disk is thick, purple-red, and glabrous; the ovary is spherical, about 1mm in diameter, 1-chambered, and 3-flowered. The infructescence is drooping; the drupe is nearly spherical, slightly flattened, about 4mm in diameter, dark purple-red when ripe, and covered with node pubescence and glandular hairs. The seeds are small. The flowering period is May, and the fruiting period is September-October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in limestone thickets or dense forests at an altitude of 460-3000m.

[Chemical composition] The leaves contain agathisflavone, amentoflavone, robustaflavone and hinokiflavone.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g.
