【Alias】 Cheng Yaojin

[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of the grass of the Poaceae family.

[Original form] Cnidium monnieri is a perennial herb. Culms are tufted or solitary, erect or geniculate at base, 30-110cm tall, sturdy, and about 4mm in diameter. The leaf sheath is extremely flattened on both sides, with hairs at the sheath mouth and glands on the veins; the ligule is degenerate into a circle of short hairs; the leaf blade is flat or involute, relatively tough, smooth on the back, rough on the surface, or sparsely with long soft hairs near the base, 20-40cm long and 3-6mm wide. Inflorescence is panicle, spreading, 20-30cm long, with solitary branches or 2-3 clusters, glabrous in the axils of branches; spikelet stalk has a protist; spikelet is oblong, 5-10mm long, with 7-12 florets, purple and purple-black; glumes are lanceolate, with 1 vein, acute to acuminate at the apex; lemma is ovate-lanceolate, slightly obtuse at the apex, with obvious and prominent lateral veins, the first lemma is about 3mm long, the palea is shorter than the lemma, with small cilia on the ridge, persistent; anther is about 1mm long. The caryopsis is brown-red and about 1.5 mm long. Flowering and fruiting period is from August to December.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows on roadsides and hillside grasslands.

[Chemical Composition] Contains friedelin, milicin, arundoin, fernenol, cylindrin, glutinone, α-amyrin, α-amyrinmethyl ether, β-amyrin, β-amyrinmethyl ether. 9(11), 15-isomaradiene-19-ol-3-one, 13(14), 15-cassadiene-3,12-dione, 9(11), 15-isomaradiene-3β,19-diol.
