Effects and functions of Shaqi

Do you know what Shaqi is? If you know, do you understand the effects and functions of Shaqi? As a traditional medicinal material, what regulatory effects does Shaqi have on our body? We will analyze them one by one for you below.

【Alias】

Oxtail seven, small rhubarb, white small rhubarb

【source】

Medicinal material source: The root of Rheum officinale of the Polygonaceae family.

[Original form]

Perennial herb. The roots are relatively thick. The stem is erect and hollow. The leaves are alternate, with petioles equal to or longer than the leaf blades. The leaf blades are relatively small, oblong to broadly ovate-elliptical, 3-6cm long and 2.5-5cm wide.

【Habitat distribution】

Distributed in western Sichuan and northern Yunnan.

【Chemical composition】

The root of Rhubarb contains anthraquinone derivatives and tannins such as aloe-emodin, emodin, and chrysophanol[1].

【Pharmacological action】

The hot water extract of this product has a strong anti-platelet aggregation effect, which is stronger than the three authentic rhubarb products. In addition, this product strongly inhibits platelet aggregation at low concentrations (0.25 mg/ml), but the inhibitory effect weakens at 0.5 mg/ml. When the concentration is further increased, a concentration-related inhibitory effect is observed. This phenomenon suggests that there may be two types of components in the hot water extract of this product, which inhibit and promote platelet aggregation. It is also reported that the IC50 of the water extract of this product in inhibiting collagen-induced human platelet aggregation is 1.50 mg/ml. This product contains the anthraquinone components chrysophanol, rhamnolide and aloe-rhamnolide[3].

【Nature and flavor】

Bitter; Cool

【Function and indications】

Clears the lungs and relieves cough; cools the blood and detoxifies; promotes blood circulation and relieves pain. Mainly used for lung heat cough; sore throat; blood in stool; bleeding due to trauma; traumatic injury; rheumatic pain
