[Original form] Fan-shaped iris is a perennial herb, up to 100cm tall. The rhizome is horizontal, thick, up to 1 cm in diameter, yellowish-white in color, with distinct nodes; the fibrous roots are many-branched and yellowish-white in color. The above-ground stem is flat and cylindrical with obvious nodes. The leaves are yellow-green, clustered at the top of the stem, with overlapping bases and arranged in a fan shape. The leaves are broadly sword-shaped, 50-70cm long and 5-7cm wide, with acuminate tips and sheath-shaped bases. The pedicels are 30-50cm high with longitudinal ridges and shallow grooves; the inflorescence is a raceme with 5-7 branches, each with 3-5 bracts, containing 2-4 flowers; the flowers are blue-purple, 7.5-8cm in diameter, the perianth tube is about 2cm long, the outer perianth lobes are obovate with dark purple markings and stripes, the edges are wavy and wrinkled, and there are yellow cockscomb-like appendages on the midrib, and the inner perianth lobes are oblanceolate or narrowly obovate; there are 3 stamens and yellow anthers; the style has 3 branches, which are light blue and petal-shaped; the ovary is inferior, fusiform, and 7-8mm long. The capsule is oval, 2.8-3.5cm long, 1.3-1.5cm in diameter, with a short tip and 6 ridges; the seeds are flat, semicircular, brown, and about 4mm in diameter. The flowering period is April, and the fruiting period is May-August.
