[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the root of the Solanum melongena plant of the Melastomataceae family.

[Original form] Shrub or small tree, up to 7m tall. Sometimes a climbing shrub. Much branched, branchlets cylindrical, glabrous. Leaves opposite; petiole about 5mm long; leaf blade papery or hard papery, lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate to broadly ovate, 7-8.5m long, 2-3.5m wide, apex caudate-acuminate, base obtuse or nearly rounded, surface glabrous, back more or less chaffed, margin sparsely serrated above the middle; basal veins 5, surface concave, back raised, veinlets reticulate. Cymes, axillary, usually with 3 flowers, rarely 1-5, peduncle 1-2.5cm long; bracts fall off early, pedicel less than 1mm long; calyx bell-shaped, with very sparse glandular hairs, densely covered with small protuberances, with blunt edges, and unclear lobes; petals pink, light purple or purple-red, triangular-ovate, obtuse and acute at the apex, slightly oblique at the bottom; 4 long stamens and 4 short stamens, the longer ones have filaments about 4.5mm long and anthers up to 7mm long, the shorter ones have filaments about 3mm long and anthers about 6mm long, with tubercles at the base of anthers, and the base of the connective slightly elongated and short-spurred; ovary inferior, ovate, with 4 wavy teeth at the tip. The berries are jar-shaped and densely covered with small protrusions. The flowering period is from June to September, and the fruiting period is from February to May of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in valleys at an altitude of 200-1760m, dense forests on hillsides or in sunny and moist places on the edge of forests.
