【Functions and indications】 Treats abdominal pain, diarrhea and dysentery.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5-1 liang (for fresh use).

[Additional prescription] For the treatment of acute gastroenteritis: 30 kg of Xianchuifengsan (Magnoliaceae plant Acanthocephala heteroptera), 5 kg of Polygonum hydropiper, add water to 126 kg, boil and concentrate to 42 kg, add 2% paraben as a preservative. Take 10-20 ml each time, three to four times a day. Children should take half the dose. (Selected Works of the Exhibition: Internal Medicine)

[Clinical Application] Treatment of acute bacterial dysentery: Use 100% Polygonum hydropiper decoction, 60 ml each time for adults, 3 times a day; children take 10-30 ml according to body weight, 3 times a day. Wait until the body temperature returns to normal and the clinical symptoms disappear before continuing to take the medicine for 2 to 3 days and then stopping. A course of treatment is generally 7 days. A total of 54 cases were treated, including 32 adults and 22 children. The time required for the adult group's body temperature to return to normal was at least 30 hours and at most 4 days; the pediatric group's body temperature returned to normal in an average of about 36 hours. The average time for various symptoms to disappear was 3 days in the adult group and 2.5 days in the pediatric group; the improvement of stool characteristics was later than the clinical symptoms, and loose stools could still last for 2 to 3 days after the body temperature dropped and other symptoms disappeared. A total of 20 cases in the group had positive stool culture (including 18 cases of Bacillus subtilis and 2 cases of Bacillus subtilis). All the results were negative after treatment, and the average time to negative conversion was 4 to 5 days. All 32 adult cases were cured without any recurrence. 18 children were cured and 4 showed significant improvement.
