Everyone is familiar with the Emei fern Codonopsis pilosula, of course some people are relatively unfamiliar with it. In fact, Emei fern and Guanzhong are a relatively common Chinese medicinal material. So what is the effect of Emei Fern?

【Other name】 Guanzhong

[Source] Medicinal material source: The rhizome of the Pteris crescentris of the Pteridaceae family.

【Original morphology】Plant height 30-80m. The rhizome is short, thick and obliquely ascending, with brown, broad-lanceolate scales at the top and base of the petiole. Leaves are clustered; petiole 15-20cm long, straw-colored, smooth upward; leaf blade leathery, oblong-lanceolate, 25-60cm long, 12-20cm wide, gradually pointed, with only a few brown multicellular short hairs on the rachis, pinnae and midrib, and deeply pinnately divided twice; pinnae about 20 pairs, lanceolate, 3-4 pairs of pinnae slightly shortened at the bottom, middle pinnae 12-14cm long, 1.5-2cm wide, deeply pinnately divided almost to the rachis; lobes 18-20 pairs, flat, sickle-oblong, 1 pair at the base larger, with fine serrations on the edges; venation pinnate, not very obvious, with 5-7 pairs of single lateral veins on the lobes. The sori are short linear, becoming elliptical when mature, dorsally located above the lateral veins, with 2-5 pairs of lobes per lobe; the sori cap is crescent-shaped, brown, entire, and persistent.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in valleys under forests or in bushes at an altitude of 1400-2500m.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; astringent; slightly cold

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; kills insects; stops bleeding. Mainly used for dysentery, ascariasis, pinworm disease, worm disease, metrorrhagia, blood in stool, influenza

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 10-15g.
