[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole plant of Rhododendron serrata of the Ericaceae family.

[Original form] Evergreen dwarf semi-shrub, 5-25cm tall. The branches are numerous and dense, sometimes spreading into a pad shape, and the branches are densely covered with alternate leaves. The leaves are hard leathery, lanceolate to lanceolate-oblong, 2-3mm long, 1-1.7mm wide, slightly wide at the base, 2-lobed, forked, slightly obtuse at the apex, with a purple-red thorn when young, shiny on the back, with a keel-like protrusion and a deep longitudinal groove, nearly concave on the ventral side, covered with fine hairs, and with sparsely serrated or entire margins. The flowers are solitary, axillary, drooping, with stalks 1.5-2.2cm long and covered with long spider-like soft hairs; there are 5 sepals, green or purple-red, with ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate lobes; the corolla is milky white, broadly bell-shaped, 7-10mm long, with 5 shallow lobes at the mouth, and the lobes are broadly triangular; there are 10 male indigofera, which are shorter than the corolla, and the filaments are covered with soft hairs. [Chemical composition] Eight flavonoid glycosides were identified from the leaves, namely: myricetin 3-O-glucoside, 3-O-rhamnoside, 3-O-arabinoside (2 isomers) and 7-O-glucoside; quercetin 3-O-rhamnoside, 3-O-arabinoside and 3-O-rhamnglucoside. Two 5-methoxy derivatives of myricetin have also been identified [1].
